L’abolition des frontières entre l’humain et l’animal dans le roman Alma de J.-M.G. Tout en s’appuyant sur la philosophie derridéenne, notre article se donne pour premier but de passer au crible la double problématique de l’hospitalité telle qu’elle ressort du roman Alma : d’un côté, celle que le dodo manifeste envers l’homme qui s’introduit dans son territoire et, de l’autre, celle que l’île Maurice donne à son oiseau endémique. Nous chercherons tout d’abord de montrer comment les dodos offrent l’hospitalité illimitée aux colons, en leur donnant tout leur chez soi et leur soi, comment ceux-ci répondent avec hostilité en prenant tout ce que les oiseaux ont à offrir, et finalement comment, en ensevelissant l’oiseau mythique dans sa terre, l’île accomplit vis-à-vis de celui-ci le septième et dernier acte de miséricorde corporelle. Notre but final sera de montrer comment, par l’attention particulière que Le Clézio accorde au dronte mauricien et par l’affection presque fraternelle que son personnage principal manifeste envers cet oiseau, l’écrivain réussit à gommer la frontière entre l’humain et l’animal, en faisant du volatile son prochain. Mots-clés : abolition, frontière, animal, humain, J.-M.G. Le Clézio. Abstract. (The Literary Theme of the Abolition of Borders between Humans and Animals in Le Clezio’s novel Alma ) . Relying on the Derridean philosophy, the first goal of our article is to take a closer look the double matter of hospitality emerging from the novel Alma : on the one hand, the hospitality that the dodo provides to the man who trespasses its territory and, on the other, the hospitality that the island of Mauritius gives to its endemic bird. We will first seek to show how the dodos offer unlimited hospitality to the colonists, giving them all their home and self, how these men respond with hostility by taking all that the birds have to offer, and finally how the island accomplishes the seventh and last work of corporal mercy towards its mythical bird by burying it in its land. Our final goal will be to show how, by the special attention that Le Clezio pays to the Mauritian dodo and by the almost fraternal affection that his main character shows towards this bird, the writer succeeds in erasing the border between human and animal, making the bird his equal, his fellow, his neighbour.
